2.5tdi lower radiator hose refitting

Is there some special trick to getting the lower hose back on?

I've tried dunking it in hot water and applying washing up liquid and I still can only get it half way on.

make sure its clean and spray with silicone spray

Isnt it a plastic quick release fitting?

All the rad hoses i've ever seen on VAGs are these plastic fittings. I just give the O-Rings a little squirt of WD40 and they usually slide right on!
