    Oil usage

My a4 2001 mod 1.6 use about 1 liter oil on about 600-800 km. no oil leak.. No black or blue smoke. The car has just gone 107 000 km.. Changed oil and filter. Didn help. Had it twice to a workshop. They couldent find anything.. I think 1 liter on 600 km sounds like alot.. Anyone might know what it is?

The oil filter would hold that much, after running the engine did you top up?

Changed the oil and filter. But still.. Every 600 -800 km, the oil lamp turns on. Gotta put on 1 liter of oil every second week. Expenssive oil too..

Is the coolant clean?IF so and there are no leaks its got to be burning it.Try a compression test to see if you have got wear in a cylinder or two.I would say that its using at least 3 times more oil than normal

Well. from the values of the exhaust emission, it was looking good. Dunno if that helps.

If the oil is going down at this rate it got to show up somewhere.Do you get any blue smoke if you let it idle when hot and then rev it hard?

No. Normal grey smoke when hot. A little more grey smoke when cold. Tried putting a finger in the exhaustpipe to feel if there was oil. But i think it was just condens.

Grey would be condensation in this weather but not too much if its hot.I would still try a compression test if I were you.Why is it kms not miles?sounds too low for this age.Can the mileage be right? If its done a lot of short journeys with the choke that would increase wear

Guess i have to take that test. Its just so damn exspensive here. Miles in USA are different than miles in europe. Dunno why the low mileage. But the cardealer told me there was an old schoolteacher couple that owned the car. So i figured it was nicely used.

A kilometer is = 0.621371192 miles in ANY country.

I deal with KMS every day due to my job and having done international driving I can honestly say i have never heard of 10kms equating to 1 mile.

A mil is a unit of distance, most often used to measure geographic distance, very common in Norway and Sweden. Today, it measures by definition 10 kilometres, (≈6.2 (statute) miles) but

earlier in history it had different values. [1][2]

The word is derived from the same source as English mile, a measurement which historically has had many different definitions throughout Europe. In Sweden and Norway, a (statute) mile is often called "engelsk mil", lit. English mil(e).

But if its genuine low miles I bet the teachers didnt do many long journeys so its probably had more wear than normal especially in a cold climate with lots of choke use.Where are you inside the arctic circle??
