Door problem

The other day unlocked car and drivers door wouldn't open went through back door and opened with ease drove 12 miles or so to work and it worked fine when I tried it at work now this morning the passenger one did at the misses got a strop on as she thought I locked her out in the cold lol but again opened fine from the inside ??

Is it just the cold weather that's freezing the lock or is it a problem beginning to start ?

Any suggestions ??

I would of thought air driven of the pump and electric side is just to let the comp no there's a fault or the doors are open for courtesy lights etc may be wrong though lol

I think the change over was about the FL time.
PFL was air pump driven and FL was electric. I think.

If yours is a PFL, it will be air. so you could have a leak or something freezying stopping it from opening.
The VCDS will tell you if there is a fault with the pump, like if it ran on for to long which will indicate a air leak.

I think you'll find all b5's have air driven locks. Its only the tailgate/boot of the facelift thats electric

Thats where i'm getting confused then.
I thought FL went electric all round along with the boot.

So its air locks.

VCDS and check for a leak.

You can tell if theres a leak by listening to the pump.

If its fine it whirrs for a couple of seconds at most. If its leaking it'll whirr for ages, 10-15secs.

If you dont fix it and it is a leak, you'll shatter the impeller in the pump.

it will be the central locking pump mine has been faulty since i brought mine, it a 2000 faclift, when i first striped the pump cause nothing work the impella was shattered, so i got 1 from the scrapy, and swaped the impella over as they are coded to car so would need vagcom or someting to install! so after the swap i got my door to work but none of the rest! my door was perfect for a few month now if i unlock it only half unlocks it but if i pull the handle a few times it opens! best bet is your local scrappy, as the ones on ebay i think r a little expensive, i paid 10 from scrapyard! there seem to be 2 vacum lines on mine think 1 is for drivers door and the other for the other 3! hopes this helps abit!

You can by impeller kits off Ebay.
I'd buy one of them over a breaker unit.

Buy a "4A0" pump from an Audi 80 or similar and swap the compressor from that. They're much sturdier.
