B5 1.8T THERMOSTAT ?!?!?!?!!??!!?!?

hi all need to replace my stat has it seems to have jammed open as car stays way to cool,,, temp comes up when ticking over for a while and heaters blow warm but soon as i drive it cools back down,,,, so i guess its stat,, going to change it tommorow just seeking advice no fitting have been told i need to remove alternator ?? is this true or can i get to it from underneath as it looks like i can ??? whos done it and best way of getting it done ,,,,, thanks guys

Easy from underneath, either fiddle the 2 x 10mm bolts out around the support bracket, or add a 13mm nut to the removal for better access.

The worst bit is the coolant running dowen your arm

Nice and easy job recently done mine and makes a differance its so warmer when the heaters are on oh and take the pipe of the plastic housing to make it easier !!

Hope u went genuine stat as I've had two non
Genuine stick open on me in the past 10 months

I paid 21 with the new gasket , both my others were from gsf
