Hi all

fitted a set of facelift headlights to my B5 2.8 Avant last night!

looks the part, and all the lights are lighting up, however...

the dipped beam and the high beam are the wrong way around! when i put the dipped beam on, only the high beam comes on, and when i put on the high beam, it brings on the dipped beam!

i bought the conversion harness off ebay....could someone tell me what wires are the wrong way round?

White and yellow are the two you need if they really are backwards.

Dip beam should be the projector (small round lens) and the main beam should be the reflector (big open bowl that also contains the sidelight)

yeah, thats what i thought when i first fitted them and my mate was flashing them to test them...but it never clicked!

cheers aragon, i'll get a look at that this evening....can't handle another day of people flashing at me!

ahhh, not quite as simple as white and yellow :(

here's the plug

i'll try to get a more focused picture!

are there wiring diagrams anywhere...googles not giving me what i need!

can't get the picture to come into focus, but the wires are as follows on the OEM loom

smaller plug has

Brown with Blue tracer
Brown with White tracer
Yellow with grey tracer

Larger circular OEM connector has

White with black tracer
Yellow with black tracer
white with green tracer
grey with black tracer
brown

I think its the white/black and Yellow black.

The other side will probably have some other color instead of the black.

Cant you carefully follow the wires down into the light housing to confirm?

i tried that, but couldn't really see once it got to the light itself!

fixed it!

my plan was to remove the full beam bulbs and make do...

but when i took the covers off the headlights, i saw a mass of wires and just followed them!

swapped them round on the harness and hey presto!

Good work. Also, if your old headlights had H4 bulbs, you need to move a pin on the headlight switch to get the main beam to work properly.

In H4 mode, the dip beam turns off when you engage main beam, in H7 mode the dip stays on.
