B5 air con pump question?

Hi folks can anyone tell me can a aircon pump for a B5 , swap from a A6 ? about the same age (98/99) my pump is making a clicking noise audi says it needs replaced £1,000+ i know a A6 that maybe going to the big grave yard in the sky (seized engine) if the guy cant get/afford a replacement??????

get them well cheaper than that off an A4.

wot im saying is if the guy has to bin the car will the aircon pump fit of his to mine as i will get it cheap of him!
