Wondering if anybody can help me fix this problem, occasionally the car will idle high, sometimes at idle, or at startup - if it does it at startup it's accompanied with a plume of black suit/smoke from exhaust,

Ive only the one code on my vag-com, cant remember the code (will check later) but it definitely says coolant temp sensor? any idea's? is this related?

Easy to replace Myself?

Thermostat will cause a coolant temperature sensor implausible signal code I kept getting this code, replaced the thermostat and hey no codes.

Any car will naturally idle high say roughly 1000rpm on initial start up as the engine will be cold, the cloud of smoke may just be some unburnt fuel and exhaust gases.

its a 2000 1.9 tdi non pd mate, old ahu engine lol

Thanks mate !, just strange, i could be sitting at a roundabout and i can see it rising from 800 to around 1100, either whilst engine is hot or cold, just serviced it so it aint dirty filters, maybe manifold needs a clean ?
