The auxiliary belt just snapped on my 99 1.9 tdi.
It is an AFN engine.
Anyone know if it's a big job to get done

You'll probably need to put the front end into the service position, which requires the front bumper off.

I'd suggest you look at replacing the tensioner too, as often they'll snap because the tensioner is fubar!

Yeh passats have a fair amount deeper nose than an A4 though!

I've done the belt on my 1.8T before and even in service position it was tight.

Same thing happened to my AFN.
It went cause the tensioner was FUBAR.

Drop the front end in to service mode, Remove the fan to make it life a bit easier, remove tensioner and redo. :)

You will need a 8mm allen key to remove the fan.

Got it done today, not too much trouble.
140euro for the tensioner and a belt.
Seems fine, but the new tensioner seems a little loud.
Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid, but there seems to be a lot of spring on the tensioner.

I know!!
You lads are spoiled in the uk with choice.
Normally I order stuff over on the net, but this was unplanned and I use the car for a 120 mile round commute every day.
What do you do?
Normally I buy on eBay or from German parts direct, is there anybody else you would recommend for general parts
