for the first time ever today, i started filling my tdi with unleaded!!
i luckily soon noticed, so have only put 1.9 litres in. then i thought, i dont want to fill it up with diesel in case i've knackered it, so i only put 10 litres in. it drove to work ok, but should i fill it up on the way home to dilute the petrol further, if its not going to effect it much??

It'll be fine if you top it up with diesel now. Some people add a small amount of petrol to increase cetane rating or to improve the performance in cold weather. Just fill her and you'll be fine

thanks for that, feel a lot happier now, and I've just been and put another 46 litres in, full to the top now!
you wont find me chuckling at the people who fill with the wrong fuel anymore, it is easily done !!

Dad did that with his old transit.

Tank was almost empty and he put a tenner of petrol in and drove off. Got a quarter of a mile and it cut out. Towed it back to the garage and brimmed the tank with diesel and after a bit of cranking off it went.

I think if it has a rotary pump they can handle it without issue.

Its the newer PD/Common Rail engines which are much less tolerant of petrol.
