Audi a4 2000 dash computer bulbs or LCD? , need some advice

Hi iv just bought a a4 tdi 2000. It's the se so has a full display with engine check at top( orange) when the door is open the main computer lights up and shows which door is open but once the door is shut it goes black. Almost like it switches off. So I cant see mpg , trip distance ect. It only illuminates when the door is open. I know these are prone for failing but I'm lead to believe that's it's due to dead pixels normally , well the pixels are 100 % on this. When it lights up all the pixels are fine. Am I right in thinking there is a small bulb that could be at fault?

On the bottom of the wiper stalk these a reset button press this as you can switch it on and off from there if it's failed then you will have to remove your clocks and send it away to be repaired.

As above mate try turning the display on using the reset button under the wiper stalk

i concur. Its simply switched off.

If it was broken it wouldnt be able to show the door or fuel warnings.

Omg I can't believe how stupid I was. You boys were correct. Haha cheers for your help. So glad it doesn't need replacing
