    RS4 brake dilemma...

    Right lads (and lasses)
    Heres my brake dilemma! I warped my fairly old front discs recently when a f*ckin nobber was doing a 3 point turn out on a back road in the middle of nowhere when I was fairly shifting along…
    I’ve just fitted £120 brembo discs and £60 febe/bilstein pads but really don’t think much of them an there a bit… wouldn’t say warped but not 100% true after really no spirited use?
    Now the dilemma begins as I have a recently refurbished and powder coated a set of B5 RS4 callipers in gun metal grey all lacquered with S’line decals, lovely! Unfortunately the bill was £170. I bought rs4 front brakes ages ago for £250 odd quid with very worn discs and yellow stuff pads, sold the yellow stuff pads as I hate them and the discs are 29.2 so no use! Didn’t realise the disc were so hard to get and so stupidly expensive!!
    Ideally in hindsight I probably would have gone for B6 S4 345mm front and 300mm rear setup? Would love B7’s all round but wouldn’t we all…

    For RS4 option I still need front calliper dust plates (£80 each) front Rs4 discs and pads (£750), for rears I’d need the rear discs (£300), offset calliper brackets (? From MRC etc) and whatever is needed to sort the handbrake modification.

    For the S4 option I’d need to lot but seems to all be selling for way less than the above for both initial and future outlays (plus I could sell the rs4 front callipers)

    I have braided lines that should fit both options so I’m at a junction where both routes will probably cost the same to achieve a full brake setup however come brake renewal time I’d obviously want the B6 setup but would the RS4 set up be vastly superior or is the B6 S4 as much bang for the bucks?
    I do very little mileage with her as she is just a toy for nice days so does that negate the savings I’d make in the long run ie S4 option and support the potentially better Rs4 option… see what you all think!

    B6 S4 is many many times cheaper than RS4 stuff.

    Craig baught a set of calipers on ebay for 80quid. Disks are 50quid each and pads can be had for less than 40.

    I'm doing exactly the same conversion at the moment to my 1.8TQS. I think I've managed to get some B5 S4 uprights (supposedly en route to me now) and the discs, pads and calipers for the B6 S4 are really cheap from factors, as aragorn says, but I'm finding it an absolute mare finding the 2nd hand B6 S4 calliper carriers which motor factors don't seem to be able to provide.

    Sure, I can get them new from the main dealer but they are £150 a side! Been scouring ebay and never seem to find any.

    There was a complete set of B6 S4 calipers on ebay for £250 buy it now the other day.

    thanks Aragorn as ever your right and spot on but away from economics which would you say was the 'better' set up?

    does anyone know if anything else share the 345mm front bake set up of the B6 S4, 3.0tdi's? A6's allroads etc?

    The RS4 setup is going to be mildly better sure, its using a 360mm disk rather than a 345mm disk, however lets be honest, the stock 288 brakes on a normal A4 can lock the wheels (albeit probably only once), a 345mm disk is more than enough for anything but the most powerful cars out there imo, especially once coupled with an aggressive pad.

    Thanks for the link. But, isn't 2006 B7? Is that not a different caliper? Saw those actually but just guessed they wouldn't fit with B^ discs and pads being off such a late model. Plus they are in Lithuania which made me a bit . Cheers anyway.

    B6 and B7 are the same platform.

    Didnt notice they were in lithuania though.
