ok guys here it is new and improved,
time your car going from 40 mph to 100 mph in third gear.
start at say 30 mph in 3rd nail it and once it hits 40 start the timer then stop the timer at 100, simple .

we know this is not acurate test , its just a bit of fun to see what sort of times = mods .

remember to list performance mods with your time including makes of chip, filter etc.

and another thing no six shooters (6speed)
as the gearing would make a big difference.

oh and keep it between the hedges /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/MexWave.gif

Ok, just done 'the test'!

I got 14.4 seconds.

Car: '96 A4 1.8T Sport (2WD)

Mods: AmD remap and Milltek cat-back exhaust, 18" RS4 replicas with 225 40 tyres (may or may not be too relevant), 203BHP, 204 lb/ft.

Drew.

Jeeez!

Maybe that great big IHI has something to do with it.......

Nice motor.

Well tried it today, 40 - 100 in 3rd, A4 Avant 1.8TQ, Upsolute chipped, everything else standard, but detuned by wife and another passenger in the car, 16 secs.....

10 seconds using VAG-COM. (This proves that your speedo reads high btw)

6 speed DSY box (1.231:1 in 3rd)

mine doesnt do 100 in 3rd /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif

13.7s

('98) A4 1.8T Sport
AmD(Sportec) remap (195bhp/220lb/ft), BMC Carbon Dynamic Airbox, Forge DV, Supersprint Cat back on it's way....

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ok.gif

Just went out, filled up with petrol (full tank!) had Jay ( ^ ) in the car aswell and 15kg of sub in the boot.

Times are as follows:

30-100 (3rd gear) - 8.9seconds. Tried this over 2 runs and got the same time.
60-100 (3rd gear) - 5.8seconds. Only tried this once but was on the strike of the needle that the times were clocked

The 40-100 figure aso has about 1000-1200 rpm of non boosted power... The 60-100 is more representative in my case.

Whats the ratio of 3rd gear on Rich's car??

I used VAG-COM which shows how inaccurrate the speedo is. From 64 km/h
to my rev limiter in 3rd (shows about 156 km/h) is a tad less than 9.5 seconds.
I rounded up to 10 seconds to account for the missing 4 km/h. At 6800rpm
(my limiter in 3rd) my speedo is actually indicating nearly 110mph. I reckon
if I used the speedo it would be about 9 seconds.

Like I said on another thread, the best way to check this would be with a
Gtech Pro RR(SS)

About 110-115 now the rev limit has been increased. I would be interested to see what your 60-100 figure is. I think the S4 has the advantage of pulling hard from low down in the revs.

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 334
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1615
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 210.13
0 - 60 (Secs) : 4.78
0 - 100 (Secs) : 12.27
60 - 100 (Secs) : 7.48
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.45
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 104.71
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.05
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 108.04

Looks pretty accurate as well.

Like the calculator idea.

can ayone tell me roughly what weight the A4 quattro would be.

Cheers.

[/ QUOTE ]

Probably around 1500kg!

Man that was quick.

going to work it out now.

Cheers.

Ok. Worked it out and as follows (I think)

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 180
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1500
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 121.93
0 - 60 (Secs) : 8.01
0 - 100 (Secs) : 25.27
60 - 100 (Secs) : 17.27
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 16.83
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 81.59
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 16.43
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 83.89

Man do I need to get that remap.

Must save pennies. Must save pennies. Must save pennies.....

The unladen weight of the A4 1.8T quattros are 1457kg, it says in my service schedule so good guess rich!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Where abouts in your service schedule does it say that?

Mine's 2WD, and the only listing of weights is on page 163 of the Owner's Manual. It gives one weight of 1775 for Gross vehicle weight, and one of 1225 for Curb weight.

I'm sure a 2WD car will weigh less than a Quattro at 1457KG?

Which should we be using? Or shouldn't we use either?

Here's my data for 1457KG, anyway:

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 203
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1457
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 141.56
0 - 60 (Secs) : 7.50
0 - 100 (Secs) : 19.85
60 - 100 (Secs) : 12.35
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.89
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 89.49
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.69
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 91.01

Needless to say, data for 1225KG seems a little optimistic!

Drew, I'd say 1225. Thats pretty low for an A4. jay's A4 1.8T Sport is 1290kg

Rich

my handbook states the weights for fwd quattro ect, 1330kg is what mine says. fwd manual.

Ok, I'll go with 1330KG then:

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 203
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1330
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 155.08
0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.94
0 - 100 (Secs) : 17.97
60 - 100 (Secs) : 11.03
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.34
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 92.38
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.14
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 93.97

Might not get a sub-7 0-60 with my gut in the driver's seat though! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

mine only does 65 in 3rd, but it does do 50-100 in 10 seconds in 6th gear

it loves that part of the power band.

[ QUOTE ]
My 2000 1.8T only does about 80 in third so a remap would add about 20mph to the speed, mmnn nice

[/ QUOTE ]

If its a 5 speed, it will do an indicated 105mph. A remap does nothing to top spped in gear as only revs determine speed

Rich

that calculator gives my diesel a 0-100 time of 42 secs! my old car would do it in just over 15 lol

yea rich is right a 1.8t-sport is 1289 (97) thats with no aircon, it will tell you on the first page of your owners manual

I did a run last night in my 2.8 30v in 14,x seconds... low 14's anyway... not too bad for stock standard with a full tank /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif - had to hit 4th at about 190-95ish

I did my 40-100 last night got 12.3secs had to change to 4th can't get 100 out of 3rd. And i didn't have much of a run from 30.

[ QUOTE ]
Awesome.

It's a good job the 1.8T is a strong engine with Turbo-Nutters like you around!

[/ QUOTE ]

hahaha. Its a great engine for tuning! My next big mod will be a 2.0l conversion.... Recover some of that lag!

Yep, there's no substitute for capacity.

Do you reckon you could go further than 2 litres? The old 1.8 16V Golf GTI engine could be bored to 2.1 I think. I know it's a compltely different engine though. Also my old 2.2 Coupe could be increased to 2.6!

Every millilitre counts.

Something tells me you'll be dropping a tuned RS4 lump in there in a year or so! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Im not sure... But 2.0 should be ample for the time being. Bye Bye fuel economy though! I avg 26mpg at the moment which really is pretty good!

nah! RS4 is too heavy. if i did that, it would go in the boot!.....Now theres an idea /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bravo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yes.gif

26MPG is excellent considering how much more air you are blowing in.

Maybe that's a future project......

Mid-engined RS4 powered A3 with custom rear wheel drive setup. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif

Not saying yours isn't quick enough or anything! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

mid engined, rear wheel drive 2.7 V6 Bi-turbo with 500bhp in a hatch.... Brings the term 'hot hatch' to a whole other level! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
