help, key has died!

took the battery out of my key and now I have no central locking and the alarm goes off every time I open the door with the key.

do they need to be recoded or something?
can I do this with VAGCom?

forget that,
I managed to find something to sort it after a mild panic!

Press the unlock button whilst unlocking the car with the key
Inset key in ignition and turn ignition on
Turn ignition off and remove key
Press the lock or unlock button
It should now be synchronised

worked a charm

You usually have 30 secs or so to change the battery before it loses programming so thats probably what happened. Glad its sorted now.
