HID wiring question

My car is a '96 so a pre facelift model but I have added the facelift headlamps and will be fitting a HID kit (4300k) at the weekend. As my car is still wired for the prefacelift lights when I go to main beam the dipped lamp goes off and I want the dipped to stay on permanently if the lights are switched on.

What do I need to swap or bypass to enable this?

These are two of the answers I've come across on this subject.Not tried either yet so cant advise further but here you are:

move the dip beam connection from pin 10 to pin 8 on the headlight switch.
Or
Bridge pins 1 and 3 without moving any of the origional wires.
