    Unhappy Boot Lock Problem

    I have an A4 B5 facelift saloon with a boot lock problem. My central locking pump as given up and I need to replace it however, I also have the problem that I can't get into my boot because the lock wont open even with the key, the lock just turns round and round. Is there any way of overriding the pump or anyother way of getting into the boot without butchering the lock. Rear seat is fixed with bulkhead behind
    Can anybody please help me please

    D'oh, i forget FWD saloons are like that. Avants and Quattros all have foldy rear seats!

    Short of breaking in, i wonder if you get a vacuum pump, disconnect one of the vac lines somewhere in the car and apply vacuum/pressure as approriate if that will manage to unlock the boot?

    Even with a knackered pump, the boot should still realease from the boot release button on the fob as its primary is an electronic system. Unless the PCB in the pump is shot or you only have a 2button/No remote.

    But , Vac/Pressure down one of the other lines (to a door) pop the boot may not work. As the vac is used as a "signal" to lock/unlock the rest of the car (IIRC)

    only facelifts have electronic pop. PFL have a pneumatic lock like the rest of the doors and a push button on the lid.

    d'oh missed that.

    I guess it must be an electrical problem with the pump rather than the usual vacuum failure if its not responding to the remote?

    And as you've said, vacuum wont work on a facelift.

    thought you missed that.....

    But seriously. i'll have a look over the wiring diagrams and see if theres a way around it (ie: getting 12v to the boot latch).

    On a side note: Highlanderorr, Where are you located?

    TBH i doubt there will be a way round it. All the electrics will go from the locking pump to the bootlid, all inside the boot.

    Perhaps Vagcom into the central locking unit and see if there is an output test for the boot pop solenoid?

    IIRC There is no output test for the lock solenoids on VC, Just alarm activations and the like.

    Can you tell me the best way of getting into the boot, I've managed to source new locks, ecu etc. But how do I go about getting into the boot, Can I drill out the lock or something?????

    TBH your going to have to do something that involves brute force, as to what i've no idea as i aint practiced in car theivery...

    I guess drilling the lock would be a start, but i dont know if it will actually get you anywhere.

    I doubt drilling the lock would do anything, as its attached from behind and the link rod down to the latch. If you are small, or have a skinny friend, you could remove the rear seats and cut the bulkhead (where the armrest is/ski hole would be) as its already marked out. or possibly remove the rear bumper and access the pump through the vent in the rear o/s wing, find a pinout and supply 12v to the boot lock and pop it that way.
