    TDI MPG

    I'm curious what MPG you fellow TDI drivers are getting and what mods you done to get the figures your getting.

    Engine:=- AFN 110TDI
    Miles:=- 118k
    Town Driving:=- 40mpg
    Motorway Driving:=- 48mpg
    Mods:=- EGR Blanked off.

    EDIT:=- I should explaine why I'm after this after this info. I'm obsessed with MPG at the moment and i'm trying to get the most out of it.
    I think it be interesting and helpful to know what mods people have done how it effects their MPG.

    I just use the average on the trip computer and at the moment it's 54.2.

    Mines 1.9 110 manual, elite remaps chip, egr blanked off, centre box removed.

    I do a fuel filter change every 6 months and its also got a fairly new air filter and I take that out and blast it out with compressed air every now and again.

    my fuel and air was done about 6-8 months ago.
    Might worth a change now.

    I'm tempted by the chip, you said before it helped with the MPG?

    Any improvment with the box removed?

    Yes was slightly better with the chip, with the box removed its stayed the same I think.

    seen a few threads like this now. Dont understand why ppl put the comp mpg figures in when they are known to be inaccurate. Wouldnt these kind of threads be of any use if ppl put down the miles they actually get?

    Just put in my details on the mpg calculator online and it came up at 53.7, not far off my trip computer at all.

    prices dont affect the MPG :P

    A lot of its down to your driving style, and how the cars being driven.

    If you spend all your time at 65mph on the motorway, you're going to get 50+, if you spend all your time playing traffic light grand prix and generally thrashing the living daylights out of it, you're gonna get 30-40.

    Weight also plays a huge factor. A B5 A4 (especially FWD ones) are a good bit lighter than later models.

    Be cause its easier to post was the DIS says in fron of you than working it out.
    DIS is about 2-3mpg out from what i'm getting, so its not massivly different.

    Smooth and gental or something like that. lol
    I've changed my driving style alot over the last couple of weeks to help get the most out of the MPG.

    I assume auto or manual box plays a bit part in MPG?

    Autos use more fuel for sure, energy gets wasted in the Torque converter for instance, and the boxes seem to be less efficient, presumably due to the extra hydraulic pumps etc that they have inside.

    96 1.9TDI (90) Standard 1Z engine - recent air and fuel filter

    Im approaching this from a different angle, my fuel guage doesnt work properly so I use the trip meter (no dis) I get to about 450 miles on a full tank of fuel and full it up again as Im not sure how far I can go. When I fill up theres always about 15litres left ish in the tank so I presume I could get to about 600+ with my more gentle 'fuels gone up again!!' style of driving!

    So im assuming im averaging 50+ (I hope)

    Hey Axios, ...(I guess its you?)
    Thanks for the help at the weekend

    1.9tdi (90) manual afn

    Im getting 45-50mpg most of the time, calculated properly using trip and litres put in as the petrol station (although I heard that fuel pumps at the garage can legally be +/- 10% from their true reading) ...

    Tried hard a few weeks back with a journey up to Bristol, pumped up tyres, no extra weight, 65mph all the way... just to see what the car was capable of and got 58mpg... Had just replaced the air filter aswell so that probably helped a little.

    Not bad for a car with 200k+ !

    Cheers

    Yeah its me mate.
    Not a problem. happy to help.

    I'm off to bristol in two weeks. I'm going to attempt a 60mph trip, chances of me getting bored is high.

    Be nice to see what MPG you get when your oil conversion is done.

    I'm currently using Miller with each fill up and also a lighter foot on the gas will defo help you achieve better figures. a change of the Fuel filter will help too.

    was doing a bit of a drive slow last week in response to this thread to see how I could effect my mpg. by sitting at 60 I managed 660 miles on 46 litres of fuel, so just over 65 mpg.
    there was more than 1/4 tank left at fill up so I guess i'd have been around the 800 mile mark

    On my trip up to Bristol and the first time I used cruise control I got a 72mpg.
    Doing 60mph for the 140odd miles.
