Speedo Cluster

Think i may already know the answer... but:
Regardless of the engine are all the clusters the same? (just differing coding).

IE: would a petrol fit/work on a diesel or a V6 work on a 4pot etc...

v6 and i4 petrols are similar, and can be coded appropriately.

Dervs are different though, rev counter only goes up to 5 etc.

almost completely dead DIS (the ribbon cable has gone) and a juddery speedo motion. found the replacement kit for the LCD at £80+, and i have SMD/t-bar soldering kit at work. but found second hand clusters between £30-60 (i can change the mileage/prog immo/code with the software collection i have)

Thoughts?

38 of us just got a Group Buy for £109 + p&p for the DIS repair. If you can do the work yourself, Tektronics sell the replacement screens for £50.
Is the juddery speedo motion definitely the cluster and not the speed sensor?
