STOCK TURBO RECON!

Hi Guys,

looking for some guidence. My Turbo vanes are sticking and i'm looking to take the turbo out, clean it all up and put it back in. Having never done this before and being a novice i look to you guys for help and inspiration.

Do I need any special tools?
I've had a look at some guide for a 1.8T removal and on there the guys disconnected oil and other fluid lines. do i need to do the same?

mine is a stock TDI one.

any help and guidence is highly appreciated.

also if anyone has a write up on how to do this would be great.

There is the oil feed pipe at the top and the drain pipe at the bottom.
That will need to removed along with the exhaust pipe and air pipe.
I dont know much more than that.

I was hopingg not to drain any fluids...
Having a look on Evilscotsmans threat on sticky vanes it appears a few guys have had some success with the "Mr Muscle" process. I think i'll give that a shot as i don't want to start draining oil and other fluids.

will attempt it on the weekend.

3rd,4th,5th gears above 4RPM when the car is under load will throw it into limp mode.
oh and i've been told by my local VAG specialist...

Have you fully checked for the simple items first such as vacuum leaks or boost leaks? And you will not need to drain the sump to remove the turbo but if you are woried about doing that you might not want to try the manifold bolts and exhaust bolts.

weekend gone i took the EGR and mani off my Bora and gave that a good clean. should be putting it back on tonight and will see if that's made a diff on performance as it was lacking a little through the gears...
don't think i have the confidence or space to do a turbo strip as i live on a main road.

mine was lacking in power as well on my tdi stripped egr gave a clean hey presto runs great like new car
