Wot is??

2 Question's for u all,
1) wot is the small section below the radio almost looks like its a a multi pin socket bit? its flush with perhaps 50 small holes? is it to do with the air con/climate con???
2) in the rear IN the pasengers ash tray there is a purple multi pin plug wot is this for and why is it there?? ANYBODY???? CHEERS mick

See if the cover panel to (1) can come off and gently remove all the fluff/oose from around the Hot Wire. Take real care on doing this as not to damage the wire, but you will benefit from a more accurate temperature control as the wire will be clear and able to sense better. Sounds as though you've got "Thermatronic" heater controls, be aware that the resistor pack at the back of the controls fails usually either in the cold /hot position and doesn't adjust when faulty..
