DIS is showing all red

Any one had this problem before ? When my car is cold (ie 5 deg C or lower) the DIS contrast goes to max on it's own. All I see is a red square. Once the car has warmed up it comes back to normal. I think is might be a dry joint or condensation. Any one know of a fix with out me getting a new dash /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Had this happen on our Bora. No need for a new dash, the LCD panel was changed under warranty but I don't believe it's too expensive.

Whats invovled in swapping the LCD out (is it a garage job ie. specialist tools etc) Does anyone know if vagparts would stock one ?

well funny enought im in the exact same boat the top of mine is tempermental! so im looking as well ! must be a fault with them,age etc , at least im in good Co!

Mine is the same:

When it says "Please Press Clutch to Start Engine" mine has lots of lines through it, and is very hard to read. Once the car starts you can see it pretty clear, at night it is almost perfect, with some missing pixels here and there. When I look at in the day time it looks a little worse because I think the brightness is faded in some spots. I may be in need of a new one too.

Is there a way you can dim and brighten the dash lights?

yeah turn the knob on the left. ie not the trip reset knob, the other one.

Yeah ajmackie, I don't know if you can get just the LCD. I've got a feeling it'll be a new dial cluster, which is a bit expensive. If I can figure out how to get to it with out taking the dash out I could probably fix the dry joint.

It only happens when cold and as the car warms up it starts to come back (ie flickers for about 2 mins then once the engine is at 90 then contrast goes to normal)

Funny thing is I also get the same problem with the volume control on the concert head unit. When cold you can have the volume either at max or min not inbetween. But when the engine is warm everything is fine.

I think it's tied to my headunit. As soon as I unplugged the concert headunit the screen came back fine straight away.

Doesn't matter now though as I've just sold the car today.

Your DIS actually reminds you to hit the clutch before you can start the engine????

haha. Must be some crap they do in the US. So many morons walking around in a daze in this damn country. In the US someone would sue Audi because they were late to work because they couldn't start the car. So here we have to have warnings like that. lol.
