Right, while I faff on with the radio, here comes the next question...

Where's the best place to get a new exhaust for the car? Want something that highlights the V6 noise without being stupidly loud... any suggestions?

Cheers
Darran

I bought a full Milltek system for mine. Its ok but was very pricey and IMO don't think it was worth it! To add to that when I ordered mine Milltek told my supplier that the one I had was the last one on the shelf and they dont intend on making anymore for the 2.8Q. Which I found a bit strange, but then asked why and was told its because the last 5 (incl mine) took almost 3 years to sell! A lot of bods on here have XS power exhausts I think, but never having had one myself can't comment. Tell you what though, I reckon an OE exhaust with a decat and performance backbox (like jetex for instance) would sound and be pretty good! Be a damned site cheaper too so long as your local auto factor is ok.

Cut out the rear box only and fit a pipe in its place. Know someone that did this on his 540 V8 BMW. Rest of the system was standard and it made a sweet sound afterwards. Nice and cheap lol

the rear box? or the rear cat?

also, as the car's got SO many cat's, could one be removed (increasing the sound/preformance) and it still pass it's MOT?

Pheonix, I was looking at the milltex too... but for £500 I thought I may be able to get something a bit cheaper!

2.8Q only has two cats, one in each downpipe. Then it has two silencers, one under the rear seat ish and the backbox.

Fitting sport cats will increase the noise, as will removing one of the silencers.

Its really not worth removing the intermediate silencer. It will be horrible loud and will not give you ANY performance gain.

So, removing or replacing (with a sports version) the rear box would be better than taking out the middle box... and significantly cheaper than a full milltex system, plus will probably give me what I want (a small increase in noise and power)
Correct?
(switches browser to ebay...)

replacing rear box will give you sn increase in noise, how much depends on what you have fitted............but increase in power???? i very much doubt it

It's the noise that I'm after more than anything, it sounds nice as it is, but just too quiet!
The power gain is supposed to be 5-10bhp depending on the system, but as I'm going to map the car i want a system that won't stiffle the map before it starts!

If you want more power you need to start with the cats, they're the most restrictive part of the exhaust.

100cell sport items or removing them completely should be your first step.

Remapping an NA car (especially one with a MAF sensor) is almost completely pointless.

As Aragorn states, mapping a N/A engine wont see great power results. Its more required when major air/fuel upgrades are changed i.e on a turbocharged car if bigger injectors/turbo are fitted the map would need updated to extract the best from the engine etc. My car is mapped and cant state how it changed the car personally as previous owner had it done, but it will usually reduce flat spots etc and maybe see a slight increase in power on your car.

As for exhaust, depends what you want. Wouldnt hurt to call into a custom specialist if any are near you to have a chat with what you require. Also, tailpipe can affect how your exhaust sounds aswell. If its only sound your after maybe a cat back system is cost effective for you, will make a difference to how it is now but not too loud!
