b5 a4 avant rear bench issue sticking catch

having had the 3/4 panel off to fit coilovers a while back i haven't been able to get my rear bench to catch as well as it did originally.
the other day while in a hurry i seem to have managed to either break or jamm the mechanism so that it won't pop the little tab up when its in the unlocked position. as a result its not really locked in although it stays upright.
obviously this has some safety implications which i would like to resolve.
can anyone suggest any key areas to focus on ?
i have tried being firm with it and that hasn't done anything.

If it's the same prob I had, it was the large Black round pin that the seat clamps onto, being screwed in too far. Its critical its in the correct distance or the latch won't flick down. If you've broken the latch then can't help you.

i'll have to spend some more time tweaking it in and out over the weekend

eventually managed to free off the tab by pulling it upwards.
spent about 20mins laying in the boot making minute adjustments to the pin and now have two workign seat catches.
