Insurance on body mods inc RS4 grill

Have all those that have changed the grill for the RS4 one told your insurance companies? If so did it make any difference to the premium? Insurance companies can be funny about that sort of thing.

Also did body mods like replacement front bumpers make any/much difference to the premium?

Am thinking of a few changes but want to add up all of the likely cost before hand.

Thanks,
John

Always declare mods- better to be safe than sorry. Although id think it would be unlilkely- imagine if you had a accident where at your fault and wrote off another parties expensive car and your insurance company used this to not cover you

For a grill it`ll be f`all id imagine if at all anything.

Most insurance companies are fine with bodymods- only engine mods where mainstream companies get more edgy.

what about alloys ????
i know what your saying yaseen, i should declare them....
do you think it would give them an excuse to haul the price up loads ???... probably the cost of the wheels !!!

Depending what bumpers and stuff you fit.
The insurance will repair the car back to how it was when it rolled off the showroom floor. Unless you say that you have them e.g. rs4 bumper if you smash it up then they will replace it with the standard one unless it is declared. Or you go to where the car is and have a chat with the repaiers, but the underwriters may not like it.
I would not even bother them with the grill as it must cost like 20 quid and if you smash your car up then depending on where it is hit it wont matter.
It wont improve the performance in any way either.
You can declare the alloys in the same way you would the sound system if that cost you like 600 thats what they will cover you for and you will pay an advanced premium for it.
Some insurers wont touch you if you have made any changed to the car in any way.
Just phone them and say i am thinking of fitting this at a cost of this what will be my new premium.

Ive never worked in insurance so dont know much, I tend to think these things like I would if I was an insurance investigator

eg, Surely alloys make a car more attractive- so if a car gets nicked then it possibly contributed? or (unlikely i know) but if a bonnet/bumper was damaged by a thief getting off a rs4 grill on your car (45 and hardly come up 2nd hand) then legally the insurance companies could get out of it?

Myzene- There is a post going on at the momemnt where a member`s a3 was in a accident, If I remember correctly- the insurance pointed out the undeclared wheels but have agreed to let it go and pay up - other members pointed out if had been stolen maybe he wouldn`t have been so lucky. Declare it- wheels are very common and as rs4`s are in low price bracket shouldnt be much id imagine.

Re: Insurance on body mods inc RS4 grill

Thanks guys for the replies. As I expected really, better tell them everything.
I have heard some horror stories such as a guy bought a BMW that had different style BM alloys on it than it would have done when it was bought new. Even though they were the same size and he bought the car like it the insurance company refused to pay up because he hadn't declared them. Ignorance is not an excuse as they say.

Was just trying to get an idea what the cost might be while I am stripping my S4 over the winter ready for some mods.
Still not sure whether to go for a Reiger front bumper, a modified RS4 one, or keep the standard one...

Cheers,
John
