Central Locking Problem

My 96 A4 has C/L as standard, its not remote. I had to put a new battery in the car about a year ago and ever since then the C/L has not been the same. Now, if I lock the car via the driver`s door the little horn tone does`nt sound and the light near the hazard light switch does`nt flash at all to show that it`s armed. IF I lock the car via the passenger door the horn sounds and the light flashes! If I lock it via the driver`s door then open it via the passenger door the alarm will go off and vice-versa

Any way to reset all of this?
