i don't have a clue what your talking about but sounds like a plan lol.
most i've done on a car is give it a service. but really keen to get into all this hands on work. is this stuff covered in the haynes manual? if so i'll need to buy one of those.

just picked up mr muscle oven cleaner foam, sodium hydroxide based, very very caustic and flammable so cold parts only if you use it. Rubber gloves and well away from the face or eyes (wear goggles if need be) and just spray it in. Says to leave no more than 30 mins on an oven or such but for us it depends when the vnt lever becomes free-moving. The only thing I dont want to do is flush it down the exhaust thru the cat as i cant tell what the catalyst will do on encountering sodium hydroxide
