Has anyone got any experience of refurbishing their gear linkage?

I suspect mine is due some TLC as the car has clocked up nearly 183K!

Is it pre facelift or facelift as they are not the same. I found a place in the states that do a metal bush to replace the rubber on facelift ones. I want it done on mine.

the 'ebay' quick shift works quite well, but as my kit didnt come with instructions i found it easier to use a later facelift mechanism that didnt have a push down reverse rather than work out how to attach spring etc.. wasnt sure it would even work but it did

so i now have a very nice precise feeling gear change and less moving parts

not sure why my facelift tqs has an earlier type push down reverse when other facelifts dont though?

Sorry should have said it's a facelift 6 speed box, although mine also has a push down reverse as well.

ah, my tdi is the same and now feels very sloppy in comparison (200k+), the quickshift will work on the six speed and actually bought it for that car but couldnt work out how to fit it !

you can usually buy a kit from audi to refurb the linkages.
they do them for golfs anyway

On mine its the bush at the gearbox end thats shagged and that means buying that whole arm at something like £70
