gearbox noise on 2.5Tdi V6 1999

sounds like a bearing, have done gearbox oil change and tried some stuff for "noisey" gearboxes mad sod all difference!

its a dronen noise even when clutch pushed in and doing 30 mph +

Any clues? Car has 111k on it and has been well looked after

Its probably a bearing like you suggest, probably in the diff, but unfortunately theres no easy fix. Its a gearbox stripdown to replace the bearings or a replacement box.

Are you sure it's the gearbox, the wheel bearing do go on these. Does it get quiter when you go round a corner? ie if you go round a right hand bend, the weight will come off the right side and the noise will soften, obviously vice versa on the left. If it does then it's the bearing.
