Oil confusion. . .

Hi,

I checked my car oil when engine was warm and the reading was perfect... so next day I checked again when the engine was cold and surprisingly the reading was low?? Why is this? Am I checking the oil the wrong way is their some kind of procedure to check the oil?

Yes but the velocity/volume stays the same If I remember correctly... anyway moving on from school boy physics which reading should I take?

Cold reading is the one to go onto, and the oil expands as it warms as you have noticed already
