I test drove a 2.0 A4 Avant with the CVT (the car had only done about 300kms)

Anyone own one of these? I found the driving experience to be somewhat disturbing. Every takeoff from standstill was something like a massive ride on the clutch. Plus it was heaps noisy - my A3 1.8T is very quiet in comparison.

The car was also slow to get to cruising revs - in a 60kmh zone, I'd accelerate from standstill to 60, then ease off to stay at 60, but the gearbox kept the revs ticking over at around 3,500rpm. It didn't seem to want to come back down the rev range.

Anyone got any comments? I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts as I had thought of upgrading to one of these. (But I didn't think much of the test drive experience)

I have a 1.8T with CVT and it's amazing -- You have to drive it to believe it; CVT is fine technology

The only downside is torque limits

The problem with the 2.0 is that the engine is "old" so to say -- 115 hp out of a 2.0 liter engine?

I had a GTi with the 2.0 8V engine and it was the worst engine I have ever had in my cars.

Better save some $ and go for the 1.8T with CVT /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
