My cars (A4 Avant sport tdi130) due a service and m.o.t before 14th of next month and i think the front and rear brakes could do with been renewed, had a quote of £494 for front & rear discs and pads fitted, Is that expensive or about right? Been looking at eurocarparts and found the parts cheaper but theres lots of different codes for both front and rear pads, can anyone help me with what i need from the link posted please??

If you send a note to Paul (PJMSpeedy) an let him know you're chassis number he'll get you a good price on genuine Audi parts - I'd not go down the generic parts route unless money is really tight or you are getting rid of the car

Yoou can then compare these to what garages are quoting you and ask them for a fitting only price if you don't feel too confident doing it yourself - fronts will be relatively simple - rears are a bit more technical as you will need a caliper wind back tool

I got my front pads done this morning. Had original audi pads fitted, the old ones was worn down to the sensors. My discs where ok

i got mintex front and rear discs and pads off ebay for under 200 quid (brand new.)

will see if i can find the link if you want?.

Thanks for the replies, found a really good local specialist who uses genuine parts and is highly trained so going in there next friday for a service, m.o.t, and brakes done

does anyone know what type of brake pad the 19tdi 130 takes? went to get the front pads and they said there are two types: lucas type and another one i cant remember. Not sure on which one i need? cheers

so i dont need the lucas type one? ill the the ATE premier ones. Cost a bit more than the standard ATE ones.

thanks

Audi don't make brake pads, they are made by Jurid, available from GSF at a fraction of the price.

replaced my front brake pads yesterday as the light came on my dash. but after i fitted the new pads i went on a drive and the brakes were really spongey and not as they were before.

after driving for a while they started to get better but still not as good as they were before i changed them. Are they just wearing in or is it something else??

Try to avoid any heavy braking or getting the new pads too hot for a few days too,

thanks or the reply guys, also by winding the piston in the caliper back, would it create air in the system which would cause the spongey feel?

or are they just bedding in?

just want to make sure

There won't be any air in there unless you undid the bleed nipple or brake pipe to allow the caliper to return. I'm assuming you used a tool or other technique to wind the caliper back in? If so and assuming there are no other problems with the brakes I wouldn't think you've got air in there.

thanks for the reply bud, didnt undo anything and used so a tool so there wont be no air. They just need bedding in.
