when i bought my car it had an aftermarket stereo and no rear amp, so i installed an alpine head unit with built in amp and ran a couple of cables from the head unit to where the amp was, figured out which cables were for the rear speakers and all was good. question is rns-e is on route, will i need to get an amp? if so anyone got a part number? (for 02 avant)

Yes you will need an AMP, the RNS-E is only capable of powering the front speakers. I'm sure I've got an Avant amp with the black plastic box & sub speaker in the loft. £25 + postage if your interested, and if it's still there.
