Since joining i have read the probs the 18T as with iol sludge.
My car is a 2003 (163) with genuine 18,000mls.
But as had long life services and never spot on time so i am concerned.
I have read that the "pick up" and pump need replacing for precaution.
Can anyone tell me whats parts need to be replaced for peace of mind with regular 12 month oil in future.
I have used a indi to replace the cambelt and all parts recently and i have a service booked with them soon. What do you think i should expect to pay for the extra work? Been quoted £190 for service with oil change and £56 for brake fliud change.

18k on the clock, thats very Low - How you manage to find that??!!!
Its 50/50 really.Being that low you could just get the pick-up checked out and if its ok then go with a flush and service. You hear horror stories of oil sludge on 1.8t's with 35k on the clock, I bought mine with 48k and booked it in straight away for a new pick-up/pump and few other bits but my specialist charges worked out around £350 just for the Pump/pipe/labour.

Now IF it was me in your shoes then Id be having the both changed just as a precaution and thats only because Ive had the BIG BaNg happen to me so wouldnt take chances and yeah you have low low mileage but id be paranoid plus there may be a chance you'd be getting it changed later on down the line anyway as peace of mind!

What kind of mileage you going to be doing?any motorway driving on regular basis?

I got the car from Audi MD,ex demo at 6 months old.I hink it had apx 1800 miles onthe clock.
I rides bikes as well so the car only gets used at week ends. I suppose i do apx 2000-3000 a year.
Perhaps 70% town rest motorway.I presume the clock was ok from the MD!

I see!

Well its a decision for yourself mate, If you aint driving it solid everyday like myself then maybe just go with a flush/service and get the pick-up checked out just to be safe (pressure test maybe?), stay on the ball and the first time you get an oil light flash up, stop the motor, get recovered then get it in for the Pipe/pump change! The oil sludge issue is a common one, 2 signs to look out for 1.Oil light as said or 2 .Your car starts to sound like a Talbot Sunbeam :faint:

i used to want one of those when i was in my early teens.

i agree, i changed mine when i bought the car, after reading the probs that J7USS had. i paid a few hundred, bit got other things done at the same time just to be sure.. timing belt etc.
