    To Remap or not to Remap?

    A little dissapointed with the mpg on my 1.8t 190 bhp b6, and feel there are some flat spots on the acceleration at certain points. There have been some issues with the car lately but all being sorted, however when all is done i am thinking of having it remapped. A friend of mine has just had his VW golf gti 1.8t remapped with a rolling road test and says it feels a hell of a lot better. So i ask you all as you are all so much better informed than me the nube, is remapping the 190bhp 1.8t a good idea, does it have to involve a rolling road, what really have been your gains if you have had it done???

    Definitely remap. Best single mod for power gain you'll ever spend money on (typically ~300 upwards). Many companies out there to choose from so do some research on here - I've had my car remapped from stock 160BHP to claimed ~190BHP. I say claimed because I haven't had it rolling-roaded. Advantage of rolling road is to check and measure before and after BHP figures. I chose a local company simply because they were recommended and close to me (he came to me) and was reasonably priced
    Very important to make sure the car is healthy before you have it done though - sounds like you had some issues
    Benefits are more power (when you need it) and slight increase in economy
    Also different maps out there: power increase will be due to more boost and fueling will be adjusted accordingly. Some "race" maps will give you a few extra horses by adjusting the timing to suit a higher octane fuel although all maps will be happier with better fuel

    Vince i was in the same boat as you untill we @ ASN had a rolling road day (poor bhp ) so i had Bill (badger5) do some log's on my car before remaping.
    Your car must have /be 100% before the remap. After my remap Bill logged the car again to make sure all was well... Worth the money all day long.

    Just need to sort out the engine light currently lit up a the moment, possible to do with PCV valve or the throttle body? Apparently you can reset this back to factory settings? Also possible sensitive 02 sensor (loads of oil stuck to it after turbo filed?). So once all done which shouldn'tt be too long i will do some research. They claim 190 - 230 bhp and 15% better mpg. That would be for me average around town average speed under 30 - 31 mpg. Haven't had a chance to open her up yet on like dual carriage way may have to do this today and see the figures!

    what does everyone else achieve on their car in town and out. I put 30 in the other day to test and i might get 150 miles out of it sound good? 1.8t 190 bhp.

    Hi ,I've also got a 190 quattro sportline and have never been very impressed with its fuel consumption,I probably average about 26mpg for mixed driving which is about the same as i was getting from my previous car which was a 2.4 v6 tiptronic a4.I always run it on premium unleaded usually Tesco's 99 RON which seems to help the performance but not the wallet,I have'nt quite had it a year and as soon as funds allow I will also have a remap which I hope will make it a bit livelier ,I've looked at APS and REVO and can't decide who to go with.On the whole i love the car but often feel that its quite heavy on fuel for the performance you get and hope a remap will sort that out but the road holding is great on decent roads but a bit bumpy on our local country lanes .Good luck with it and enjoy.

    I had poor mpg and then found a few hoses had split over the winter and such changed these and ill get 28-30 on b roads and about 32-34 on motorways.

    Like the fact these are specialists in vw/vag, what phase are you going for??? Pahse 1 or 2? How much are they charging?

    i agree sports suspension can be little unforgiving, i have a feeling there may be a slight problem in my car with the 02 sensor making the fuel become a little lean, thats also causing it to use up a little more fuel, however the mpg on this car does seem to be a common grumble. Some people say the efficiency improves with higher octane fuel??

    Anyone tried Celtic Tuning? they claim 235bhp from 190 BEX engine?? most other places say 220bhp?

    Really want my 190 Q S Line remapped, but dont know were to go! and funds wont allow at the moment, needs a new coilpack as one decided to die on me over the bank holiday weekend!!

    had mine mapped ages ago and made a big difference so worth the money
