Question 2.5 V6 TDI ticking noise?

    Evening all

I'm from the S3 side of the site and posting on behalf of a friend on here who can't jump online yet.

He has an A4 2.5 V6 TDI. He said there's a ticking noise coming from the engine on idle. Also, whilst he is driving the ticking noise gets faster as he speeds up.

Any ideas what it could be?

    Thanks

    Jay

I would hope its not a faulty camshaft, as they are known to have chocolate cams....

Dont' know id its of any use, but I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I was on a longish journey, and stopped for a cup of tea. I heard this ticking noise on idle and getting faster when accelerating. I called the AA as I didn't like the sound of it. It transpired that it was actually a misfire ( or a no fire!) that was being caused due to water in the affected injector's diesel line. Cleaned the line repleced the fuel filter, and all has been well since.

If it is easy enough i think these are v6 engines can you take off the cam cover for the drivers side and check that it is well lubricated and no signs of ware if thats not poss then off to a indy for inspection.

very easy job to inspect the cams, just remove fuel lines from pump to injectors then the leak off hose from injectors, then lift the rockers. checked mine all looked good and i have the chocolate cams, 2001 ake or as i like to call it 2001 ache.
