    Sludge/oil question.

New to the forum and looking at all things 18T related.
    I see that the 18T has a oil/sludge issue.
My car is 2003 model, bought a 6 months old from main dealer with 1500 miles on clock.
The car as now done 18,000 miles only.
In that time i have used the long life service and never on time.
I have just got the cambelt and all neccessary parts changed due to age ,by a good independent.
I now have worries on the sludge issue i read here.
I read not to flush but to do a couple of oil changes first.Apart from that what is the "PICK UP" that needs to be addressed. What parts need changing?

Ha ha, don't make the same mistake I made.

If removing the pick up pipe yourself, REMEMBER which of the 2 bolts goes in the top, and which goes in the bottom. Failure to do so, and being unlucky with the 50/50 chance (which you will be) will shag your oil pump......

doh !!! my bag sorry, must learn to read slower! 18000 miles isnt alot i know but mine went only 6000 after an audi service so i guess theres no telling when the buildup could start.
mines got full service history by audi and has been done every 10,000 miles religiously, just shows you, it could strike anytime.

Had the cambelt done wednesday. It is only since joining here i see about the oil pick up.
Going by that picture it looks a big job, costly.
I got the cambelt,w pump, tensioners, rollers done for Ł420,any ideas what the pick up might be going by that?
    Also i see "gauze" mentioned?

This is the shaft driven pump so the bolts are equal lengths fortunatly. You had the chain driven one in yours didnt you?

    Nice heads up tho

The actual pipe costs you no more than a Tenner but then its the labour involved changing it

haha! Yeah you wanna get it out your sump and take it back mate, thats daylight robbery!lol

Would I have it done.....hell yeah! Just as a reassurance. Then id be having the pick-up done again around the 50k mark...Cal me Para but I just think this Oil sludge issue is becoming way to common.

do you think its the way we servis are cars here. i no over in europe when they change the oil they conect a pip to where you feel the oil up
and then a pip on the dran plug and its flushed clean with a machine now im told this makes the car run ten times better plus the oil is still
like new 3 to 4 mths latter not black at all. iv been trying to find some where over here that do it but have had no luck. but did see a home made way of doing it
    on youtube.
