well i got my first Audi the other week a 2002 1.9tdi :)

now comes the problems!!!

everything worked fine until tonight when i locked the car with the fob but the drivers side door never locked!!

locks/unlocks with the key fine and locks/unlocks all the other doors at the same time with the key but when you use the fob the drivers side wont lock or if you lock it with the key and try and unlock with the fob the drivers side stays locked!!

ive done a search and seen a few things mentioned about the wiring in the rubber boot that runs to the door breaking so will be checking this tomorrow

anything else i can check or any other ideas ?

cheers stu

Check wiring first then look at the actuator / solenoid that operates the locking mechanism.

checked the wiring which i found two wires was not at their best!!!

the earth was holding on by a few strands and had been err bodged before so sorted that one and there was a live wire too showing a few strands so fixed that

problem still remains though!!!

i think its time for a new lock for the drivers door!! as everything else seems to work fine!!

Could be convenience module/door module tbh mate, have you got vagcom or someone you know who has it, if not then click on link in my sig to get a scan done by a member or buy vagcom.

Reason why I say this is if the lock works manually & this also locks the rest of the car, then it indicates the lock itself is working fine, now it all depends on the lock design as the 8P has number of microswitches in the lock itself, but atm I'm not thinking lock myself, but not impossible, certainly a scan will give you some more info to pinpoint it mate.

not got a vagcom or dont know anyone with one!!! but im sure a quick look through the local rag will bring something up

hope its just something simple and cheap to replace!

i will get a vagcom check done first and go from there

how much are the vagcom's to buy and where from ?

As I said check the link in my sig, has members in areas willing to do a scan for you for beer tokens, optionally buy it yourself, pm if interested as I sell the genuine kit.

sorry i did check your link

but was just thinking for the future about buying one depending on cost :)

Ah ok well I sell genuine kit, £241 delivered mate, 1st use usually pays for itself tbh & every use after is result as free, where as audi or garage would charge each & everytime huh, dont know one buyer thats regretted it, not one, also if you change to another vag car will work no worries & if another brand outside of vag then resale value is high.

hmmm £241 i havent got at the minute :(

i will see what the local independent VW/Audi specialist says ive heard he likes to under cut audi lol

That £241 is starting to look worthy now huh, lol, cause that £69 is just a scan huh, also is that hourly, easily adds up, find a spare bit of dough & make yourself happy, lol

You are quite the sales man :p

lol, tbh once you use vagcom mate, it sells or has sold itself, compare this, audi VAS5052 unit is £5-10k, vagcom £241, end of really.

Is the £241 for everything (obviously not including the laptop) such as software and cable, and is this the full version. Like is there anything this version cannot do, which other versions can?

I'm very new to this, so want to get my head around it all. And sorry for hijacking your thread Stu_m...hopefully you get your central locking fixed soon!

im hoping to buy one of these sometime so maybe in touch in the future!!

at the minute im going to leave the central locking as it still locks its just a little annoying having to do it old style with the key lol

got more important things to pay out for at the min but watch this space :)

I might be interested in that VCDS offer myself...

Sad thing is i bet i have spent that in the number of 'eBay' cables i have had over the past 3 years that work about 3 times and then break! :(
One day i will learn!

Feel free to PM anytime.

Yes I have to say everyone learns eventually :)

What people have to also take into consideration is the amount of wasted time spent using these cheap cables that maybe dont work properly, go wrong etc, afterall time does equal money aswell in the grand scheme of things, what you save in time & overall hassle buying a genuine unit is far more than what you would have gained from a cheaper alternative that wont update, no support & most likely go wrong at some stage.

Some cheaper & much older versions interms of shareware will work & continue to work, but not for newer cars & wont allow access to all modules, so at the end of the day its your choice, but food for thought, its not just about saving a few bucks at the time of purchasing, as said above the number of wasted leads from ebay huh.

Can not agree more... My last ebay lead cost in the region of £60!!!! (admittedly at the time i thought it was genuine..)
It lasted all of 4 scans.....

You are also right about wasted time! I have had hours and hours of wasted time and stress that would have been avoided with the genuine lead... I also want the nice box too put it in!

What's the deal with future updates for example? Is this system gonna go obsolete in a year, and we need to pay to urgrade? OK, i'm actually trying to look for a reason NOT to buy it here, but struggling, haha.

I doubt it... I really dont think manufactures will be moving away from CAN-BUS any time soon... (only reason to have a need to change the lead).

So as long a Ross-Tech keep updating.. VCDS should keep going...

You won't find that happening. I've had my Hex-CAN cable for at least 3 years and not had an issue.
