How do the electric folding mirrors work?

As above, am I just supposed to turn the mirror control knob to rear setting? Do I need the ignition on or anything as tried it on the drive tonight without keys in and nothing happened.

On my B5 I wired it as per Elsa and it would only work with ignition on.

I would go and try it with the keys in but the missus is out in it.
