Will get some pics later but got a few questions first :

Looks as if some muppet has put either the wrong discs or pads on the front at some point as they are grinding and you can see the pad isnt sitting on the disc correctly. So what size discs n pads do i need as i went on eurocarparts and they list 3 different sizes. So went on ebay and found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-A4-FRONT...s_SM?hash=item359fd34126&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 which says they are for the right car and i have looked inside the front cover of the service book and in the list of 3 digit numbers it says 1LB which the guy on ebay says is correct. So should they be 312mm discs??

Lastly on a slight oversight of mine the car does not have full DIS it does not have the buttin on the wiper stalk and basically just tells you how far you have left to go in miles. I wanna do the Full DIS mod asap as i had it in my S3 and used it lots so what do i need in order to upgrade??

Cheers in advance

Still can't work out what size front brake discs are correct for the car any advice would be very helpful as i need to buy some replacements but don't wanna buy the wrong thing obviously.

vrbob - not sure if it's any help or not but i've just replaced the front discs on on my 1.9tdi fwd se and they were 288mm! Not sure how you can check but whenever I get anything from GSF I give them the reg number of the car and normally they get it right! :uhm:

Regards

Richard

Cheers Henry,

yeah i put my reg in on euro car parts website but they gave me 3 different sized discs as options.

not sure if as mine is quattro if they are the bigger discs or not.

the 2.5TDI Quattro is 312mm.... it's heaviest B6 A4 (excl.S4) and I think has the biggest discs....

Ok thought they would be but still unsure as to what size should go on my 1.9 quattro.

Well problem solved : It has the 288mm discs there were also 2 types of pads to choose from.

Turns out some garage had put the 282mm discs on with smaller pads years ago and then the guy i bought it off had the pads replaced but they put on the pads for the 288mm discs so i was basically using rust to stop the car!! No wonder it felt so crap when braking.

Anyway after a little shopping trip yesterday to the local brake specialist i now have some nice new pads of which there were a choice of 2 different designs so i guessed and got it right and a pair of discs which i replaced yesterday and its so much better now as i can stop and it doesnt try to rattle my teeth out whilst doing so :)

Well didn't really make much of a decision really as luckily my Dad had an old set of Ferodo pads n discs he bought for his B5 avant which he never used so we took them to the shop he bought them from 2 years ago and they said they would take them back and charge a 15% re-stocking fee. So as he was never gonna use them (he sold the car) i basically just got Ferodo discs and Apec Pads and paid an extra £40. So nothing perfomance quality but so much better tha the worn out crap that was on the car. To be honest i have bought expensive pads and discs before when i had the S3 and an impreza before that and unless you are tracking them i don't see much benefit. I would go for the quality brand average stuff as its only my daily driver not a balls out sports car.

If i hadn't got the bits i did cos of the good deal i got personally i would of got the mintex Pads and Discs they do as a set in one box which you can find on ebay eg http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-BORA-1-8T-...s_SM?hash=item359e3b1216&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Now i know these arnt for the A4 but as an example not bad for the lot for under £100.
