bub - very nice, that Avant is what mine would have looked like had I not got the TDI skirt put back in (happening now)....

tbh, it's a 120-odd thousand mile TDI and even those that have converted theirs will confess to having to clean the tail-pipes on a regular basis to prevent coke build-up... as much as I can appreciate the satifaction of seeing those nice pipes sticking out the back, I'm not sure I would have wanted the embarassment of the smoke-screen every time I boot it...

bub - I just realised that I google-searched for "Audi A4 Avus" wheels and downloaded a bundle of photo's, including the reverse-angle shot of your Avant and the Saloon (with the Avus wheels) :D

got the car back... all looks much better: tamer with the TDI rear vlaance, but a lot more "purposeful" with proper headlight washer kit..... pics probably on Sunday.

Also ordered some OEM S4 'Avus' 18's, but they're a week or so away...

As much as I'm VERY glad they were able to do the bodywork kit and they were one of the few places that offered to source, spray and fit the bodykit all in one and they were relatively cheap (about 600 cheaper than buying the parts from Audi Epsom and getting their bodyshop to fit and spray it), but I'd only recommend them fairly hesitantly after my recent experiences...

Most of my reservations are around a pretty thoughtless and careless workshop: aside from the obvious bits of them fitting the wrong rear valance for the car and stripping out the front headlight washer kit (which is illegal) so they could then fit the wrong bumper.... there's still a ding in the paint that was very obviously VERY fresh the first time that they handed the car back to me that two of their reps went for the "quiet non-commital" approach on... so still pretty pissed off about that... it's not THAT noticable, but not on any of my previous photo's and their reponse generally just wasn't up to scratch.... if you'll excuse the pun

I am happy with the end result and will post lots of very nice pics... and I will cautiously mention Fontain's name again when asked where to get the work done, but only with some reservations.

Lostbok - Got there in the end then - although a bit of a struggle - gives the car a whole new lease of life! Looking forward to the new pictures.

I'm in the process of finalising my S-line bodykit upgrade.
I did source all my own parts and got them painted with a bit of bartering with the local paint man who deals with all the nearby Audi garages.

Very nice chap - alot of Audi experience and I'm sure can source the Audi parts for what you need. Has done alot of "painted lower" mods. etc.

Glad you got your car back and you are almost happy. To be honest mate I would go back and get them to sort it. It's not your fault they are so careless and given your history with them I would make a point of making sure everything was perfect. They should ensure you are 100% happy.

These are the alloys I will have on there eventually: except mine will look meaner with the S-Line front rather than that wimpy S4 front (plus the same S-Line door-blades, but slightly more conservative rear):

TBH - the "ding" is very minor and not in a very obvious place (just below the indicator) but it's deep enough to still be visible after some of that scratch-fixer polish.... I'll get some close-up pics when I do 'em.... it's enough for me to spot it immediately on the first walk-around and notice it again on the inspection y'day... but not enough to get a really arsey about it as it'll probably polish out with a bit more work... they can just have a few years of lots of non-commital PR and warnings for people to take LOTS of high res pics of their entire motors... just in case the next "ding" is worse and they still just shrug their shoulders and keep on walking around the car.

I'd have kept the 1.8T style rear valance tbh.

Who cares about the smokescreen, its not really going to make that much of a difference if its blasting at the floor or straight back, if your moving at any speed you'll leave just the same trail behind.

there's a big difference between balsting that heavy soot at the floor vs in the air....

I'd still have kept it if they'd done the tips for free, but I wasn't gonna spank another 200 on it right now.... and it looked freckin' stupid with the down-tips in the S4 skirt...

Mine smokes a tad more with the tuning box, but I never see any on the back of the car (still got downswept pipes atm). Besides, it's an excuse to clean it

longer? eh? Niknak... are you trying to say something J7 - nah - nothing "bad", but when you boot it hard in 2nd / 3rd, there's an initial puff... given that it's for literally 1 second and aimed at the floor, it doesn't bother me.... it's only there if you're driving behind looking for it... but if it was aimed out the back with big chromed "guns", it's be VERY noticable and presumably also on less aggressive accelleration too...

The smoke is not a problem, it's barely noticable really and more than acceptable given that exposed tips are a MASSIVE improvement and continue the subtley aggresive S Line look, rather than the rather bland and boxey TDI lower IMO.

no chance to clean the car properly, been playing taxi today (to my parents and friends) - about 400 miles of booting it to Heathrow and back a few times...

apols for the filty car, but, here's the finished product:

    headlight washers are back!!

and the ever devisive TDI rear spoiler is in place, leagues better than the regular TDI rear valance, but agreed, some nice chromed pipes would have been nice if I had the funds to do that work right now and was sufficiently confident of the TDI fumes once aimed skywards...

....and here's Fontain's workshop "handy work" where something was dropped on the side... after I'd spent 20mins working it with a few layers of scratch remover, it's not THAT visible...

    And zoomed in....

proper photo session once I've had a chance to fit the Avus 18's.... and since they're currently rims only, it really ought to wait until I've put tyres on them and it's 600 for 5x Toyo Proxes T1-R's... 235/40/18 tyres are expensive!!!

I pointed it out to the one rep the first time I picked it up, but was focussing on the wrong rear valance and headlight washers that had been stripped out at that stage... as I said before he just blanked me and walked around to the other side of the car the two times I mentioned it.... but yes, probably should have made more of it the first time... the 2nd guy was none the wiser as by then, the car had come in with the scratch like that already.

edit: at the moment, I'm just fed up with schlepping an hour out to them and back each time.... would really rather not leave my car with them again... I might just get one of those mobile scratch repair guys to come and work on it...

I'll see how much it's gonna be to get it repaired... and I'll give them the opportunity to redeem themselves somewhat, but not worth the stress of taking it there, driving some ropey courtesy car for a week and then having to waste another few hours driving back to pick up mine...

I can fully see your point on this. With all the grief I had with my engine change, the car was then returned with the wheels damaged and oil on the interior. But I was so mistrustful of the place, I just wanted my car back - I didn't need the stress of returning the car back, and then having got it back with more problems. Sometimes it just pays to quite while you're ahead and cut your losses, it is very easy to sit here and type "Sue them for every penny" etc etc - but sometimes it's actually a better bet to walk away. Thats my thoughts anyway!

Sorry couldnt agree whatsoever, walk away, what planet you on James????

They screw my car up, why should I just walk away, principle cause if you walk away & they have the oh we can do that to everyone attitude & trust me they do, then where's that leave the next poor tit that uses them when they also have problems after you, you have to stand up & be counted & set the precendent so they know they cant take shortcuts all the time & get away with it, no way, 2 hours drive is nothing tbh given the satisfaction I would have of making them fix my car properly 100% & also given them the same bloody inconvenience of doing the work properly that they gave me, I pay for a service I expect to get it, simple really & also driving away knowing the car is exactly as I asked for in the beginning, that my friends is second to none.

They dont like then tough, they said they could do something I wanted to my car, then if they dont do to the contract of work then its for them to get it done to that specified agreed state.

Go back to them mate & say you've left a nasty scratch on my car, you've caused me seriously inconvenience from driving back/forth & costing me fuel/time. now its getting stupid, you want the car finished with no scratches etc & also a credit against the work to reflect the serious inconvenience/time/cost of the cock ups.

I wouldnt settle for less, simplessss, you pay for a service, you should get it & I dont care what others say, if you let them get away with it now then leaves them open to do it again & again

I'll get the quote, let them know what it's gonna cost and if they don't want to pay up for the damage done, then Ill just make sure that the full story (incl the illegal bumper downgrade, etc) ends up on here and the half-dozen or so forums that I'm a semi-regular on... possibly the other couple of dozen forums that I'm a member on...

I'm getting some satisfaction that Googling "Fontain S-Line" gets this thread as #1!! Thank you Audi-Sport!!

sometimes better just to warn as many other people as possible about these things... I have a lot of high res photo's and I can't see the scratch on any of them, but then I can scarcely see it on the distance high-res pics I have already, so not sure it's firm evidence.... I think the fresh scratch the frist time I picked the car up was the closest to "evidence" that I and the rep saw.

To be fair Lostboks experience is very different to mine. He seems to have a better rapport with Fontain than I ever did with my place, and he hasn't been messed about by them anywhere near as much as I was (not by Fontain).

I just wanted to make the point that it is very easy to sit here and type about how you would rant and rave about something, but in reality it's easy to say that when it's not your issue - if that makes sense!

James - I can see where you coming from with regards to when its not our issue but I guess its down to our own selves really, whether its something that you eventually wouldnt notice or bother you! I know what im like though - I hate Stealers rip off prices and Specialists "not so Special" work....so guess im Fcuked!!!...wheres that Haynes manual....

Fontain certainly know their Audi's and didn't blink when it came to fixing the original (headlight washer and rear valance) problem, but that ding is definitely a blemish on what should have been a very fun (albeit expensive) experience of getting the car all S-Lined up....

Even if they were gonna do it (at Fontain) for free, it's not worth the hassle and stress to drop the car off; so I'm getting quotes for mobile repair guy to fix it and if Fontain pay up then "nice", if not, then it's just a another little nick in their reputation but I'm sure it'll cost them more than that in terms of people either giving them a miss entirely or people who do use them poring over every inch of the car with a high res camera before and after handover to make sure they document any future neglect.

Have Fontain been made aware of this thread? I think it would help your cause if they knew.
