fitting keyless entry kit to A4 ? help!

Hello,

I have bought a keyless entry kit for my A4, I notice the first step is to disconnet the battery!
can I fit this kit without doing that? its just I am dubious as to wether or not my head unit will lockup as I dont have the key for it?
