Guys

I've just bought a 2003 A4 Avant 3.0 Sport Tiptronic (complete with factory fitted S4 body kit and 18" S4 wheels). A great car and pretty spotless all round. She has 77k miles and a full service history (main dealer).

I have a couple of questions about Auto Transmission Fluid change - should I get one and if so, when? The dealer I bought it off suggested an ATF change at 100k miles.

I have noticed a very minor clunk at certain times like on deceleration if I lift off quickly or if I plant my right foot too quickly, but apart from that it's business as normal. Would an ATF change help this?

I just want to know what to expect or ask for- just an oil and filter change or full flush-out of the system? How much would this likely cost from an independent Audi specialist

Basically, I'd like to hear what you guys would recommend, having maybe gone through this yourselves.

BTW - What's the difference between multitronic and tiptronic?

Cheers

Philip

multitronic is a CVT gearbox, tiptronic is a normal auto with manual gear selection

Multitronic is a little more fragile than the tiptronic, but its not fitted to any of the larger engined cars.

As for the oil, my haynes manual for the B5 recommends auto box oil is changed every 40k, or every 4 years, whichever comes first.

The clunks you can feel might be the engine or transmission mountings, might be worth checking those before worrying too much.

Cheers Aragorn, will take a look at engine and transmission mounts and check through the service history to see if the ATF was replaced. If not then I'll get at it ASAP.
