Hi, has anyone replaced the cable that operates the movable hood storage box?
I didn't want to start ripping out trim panels unnecessarily (don't actually know if the cable is broken or just dislodged)
Thanks, Ian

Hi,

1st thing, make sure the cable hasn't just come out of its recess on the back of the plastic cover. it wont have broken its solid metal

If it hasn't I guarantee the metal cable will of come off the pulley behind the left hand boot liner, the longer you leave it the more twisted and tangled it gets unfortunately

Its a proper pain in the ar*e to sort out, happened to me a couple of months ago. You will have to undo the wire from the pulley and straighten it and them wind it back round the pulley, there is also another wire on the left hand pulley for lifting the right hand side, but that is wound on the pulley the opposite way.

Good luck.

Hi Blackpool1974, I've got the same problem with my compartment. How did you go about doing this? I was looking at it today and trying to figure out whether I could lift the whole compartment assembly out and do it but couldn't figure it out. Did you do it in place? Any tips much appreciated!!

Thanks

Mark

the audi manual says that the lifter compartment is a 2 man lift. i have some pdf docs of the exploded compartment view and workshop manual, i will try and upload them tomorrow. feel free to pm me your email and i can send them straight to you...

here are said pdf docs.

there may be some duplicate pdfs in there. there is also an exploded view of all the bits, and a word doc with part numbers.

hope this helps.

for reference, mine has a broken item 16, which forms the cable guide on the lhs of the compartment, the item is around £20 from audi, and a local specialist quoted me an hours labour to fit it.

ps hope this is allowed mods :rulez:

can be downloaded 10 times i think as i dont have a rapidshare account, so get it quick :)

Thanks for the pdfs and comments, helpful but worrying at the same time, can't say I'm looking forward to dismantling mine........
