Hi,

I have a 2003 A4 TDI Quattro and have recently had it serviced at an specialist.
I checked the milage to next service and it reads 8200, however i have only driven about 500 miles since getting it serviced a month ago.

The distance i have had in between the service before last was about 18k

Has anyone got any thoughts before i contact the garage ?

Cheers

John

I have mine on 10k fixed servicing but the countdown gives exactly 9k between services. The dealership told me it's a feature to give plenty of warning for a service.

My first service which was on AVS was at around 17.5k at 2 years but I switched to fixed as I don't fit the profile for AVS (very few owners actually do)

Sounds to me that they have just reset your service counter using the buttons on the dash. This is for 10k Fixed I believe. If wanting to reset for variable servicing then this needs to be done through VAGCOM.

I specifically wanted it on 10k fixed servicing as we do lots of short (5-10 mile) journeys on twisty country roads which doesn't fit with the AVS profile.

Going back to the original question. I believe it can take a few hundred miles for the AVS to sort itself out but it might be worth checking that they have put the correct oil in - it should be 507.00 these days.

Hi pjmspeedy, Thanks for the reply.
Just spoken to the garage after seeing your post and yep they reset it via the dash.

I have had a look at the Vag-Com way to do it but i'm a bit confused with day's milage....

Has anyone done this and could give me some pointers ?

Cheers

TBH mate, you dont want to be leaving the oil in the engine for 9k never mind 18, especially on a TDI...

I'd leave it alone and if you fancy skimping on the full service, then at least get the oil changed every 9k...

If it was my car, i'd be changing it every 4-5k, and 5-6k if it was a petrol.

Hi pjmspeedy, The version i have access to is 409.1 which i dont think has the simple SRI Reset.

Aragorn, thanks for the tip. I dont intend keeping the car for that long just prolonging the service intervals to keep costs down, and warranty valid.
I do change the oil in my Seat Leon about every 8k though ;)

Thanks

John

the instructions are on rosstechs site on how to reset the sri with 409.1

I've reset the sri on our B5 before using the manual method with 311 and 409
