After spending 2 months getting BMW to buy back the M5 I bought at Christmas which ended up with a new engine block after 24k miles, I was happily going to return to the Audi fold and order an S4 this week, but after reading posts here about gearbox problems I am now having second thoughts. Is there any percentage information on these problems? and can anybody re-assure me that the factory have taken some action on new builds.

Well I don't think it is resolved, my S4 will be going back in to have the gearbox sorted very soon. The gear change is really notchy, and you have to be quite forceful with the gear change to make sure it goes in properly.

I believe chairboy was referring to the posted comments about the S4 loseing reverse and those issues. These were for a limited number of cars within a chassis number range.
