    Dealers on Merseyside

    Due a service on my S4 Avant soon and Im heading back to the UK to get it done. Has any one had any dealing with Audi Cheshire Oaks or Liverpool as these are the two nearest dealers.

    The car is due a service around 45000 miles.

    Jardine in Liverpool have quoted Aprox cost for full service 540.00 smaller service = 311.00 (no oil or air filter)

    Try Stafford Audi.....they seem to operate in the "real world" unlike a lot of Audi Dealers and do stuff like a cambelt change on an Audi V6 Diesel for around 400....whereas Preston Audi wanted 600....
    Call them on 01785 250444 - get a price from Stafford Audi and then ask your local Audi Dealer to match it......definately worth a go !

    Ill give it a try and see if they will match but stafford is a fair old spin!
    My other option is to go up to Agnews in Belfast (im in ireland). Unless there is a very good indy in the merseyside area?

    surely the oil and air filter are the most basic service elements? If you get a "smaller service" surely those should still be included...

    the price from us (cheshire oaks audi) for a full 40,000 mile service

    oil
    filter
    sump plug
    pollen filter
    screenwash

    = 390.55 inc vat

    the cam belt will be due next year at 5yrs so i havnt costed that in.

    The S4 doesnt have a cam belt!?

    Also what dates are you open between 28 dec and jan 5?

    your seriously charging 390 for a gallon of oil, a filter, sump plug and a pollen filter?

    Do you actually do anything else during the service? Because thats a feckin rip off. Those parts cost about 50 all in, and fitting them takes less than an hour...

    im not going to get into silly little arguments about the price of a service, thats the price thats what it is,
    ive come on this forum to offer a little help to the members, ensuring good service at a bit of a discounted price.

    I've never been near a dealer for a service, my cars too old and simply not worth it, and that figure was quite a surprise to me!

    I'm not wanting to get into an arguement about the price, more enquiring as to what that money actually gets you. You've listed the parts the service includes, so what else actually gets done to the car?

    full service inc

    8.1 litres of oil iirc ( without going back into the quote )
    1ltr screen wash
    new sump plug
    new oil filter ellement
    new pollen filter

    + labour
    + vat

    we include a free 40 point visual health check on the vehicle, check is quite comprehensive

    the vehicle is also valeted before leaving us

    The work hes suggesting is about an hour tops, dropping the oil and changing the filter should take any more than about 20mins for a seasoned mechanic with all the kit, with the rest of the time given to looking over the car.

    The parts would cost, from my local factors, and assuming top spec oil, about 80quid. So that leaves 310 in labour, for an hours work. Which is, in my personal opinion, a rip off.

    tbh mate you have just spoilt it for the whole forum, im not on here to be told everything is a rip off.... i know cars are expensive, hense why i came on a forum to offer members a bit of discount in 4 dealerships in the north west

    Ok. I have just done this job myself, I am a seasoned professional engineer and no fool when it comes to wielding a spanner.

    It took me over 3 hours to change the oil.

    15 Minutes were running the engine to apply the flush, then had to unbolt the plastic undertray which took a good half hour or more due to rusty bolts and tight rusted clips. After 45 minutes the sump bolt was ready to be removed, by the time I had a container positioned and the sump bolt out an hour had elapsed.

    It took another 10 to 15 minutes for all the oil to drain, including waiting till the flow was low to allow the oil filter to be taken off, which too gargantuan effort using a pro chain wrench to loosen it, at which point it poured red hot oil over my gloves and took very careful handling to remove without further spillage and injury. The oil has to be drained hot so it all comes out.

    After oiling the seal, and refitting the oil filter, I filled the engine with full synth, 4.5L from empty, it won't all go in at once so takes about 10 mins, thats us up to about 2 hours so far.

    Then checked the sump bolt torque, the oil filter tension and started the engine to check for leaks. I ran it for 10 minutes back up to operating temp to make sure there were no problems. No leaks, checked the sump bolt and filter tightness hot once more then proceeded to refit the bloody engine under cover, which took another 45 minutes as its the most awkward thing ever invented but can't be left off or put back wrong or it will come off and allow air to rip off the entire floorpan cover (that the B5 doesnt have btw) and cause loads of grief, so I spent another 3/4 of an hour getting this right.

    In short it was the most awkward, pain in the arse oilchange I have ever done in my 27 years of driving.

    Tell me now thats only worth a few quid!
    B4 TDI - old skool project / daily driver...if it ain't broke, it's probably an Audi...

    i do mine every few months due to the mileage we do, and theres no way it takes me any longer than an hour, from driving the car into the workshop, to driving off again.

    And thats including me rolling around on the floor with the car on a trolley jack, never mind some stands.

    Takes about 5minutes tops to get the under tray off, and another 5-10 for the oil to drain, i change the oil filter while its draining, so by the time i've removed, primed and refitted the filter the sump plugs ready to go back in. Fill it with ~3L of oil and while its draining thru the engine i refit the undertray and take it off the jack. Quick check of the level and i'm ready to go. Can probably do it all in 30-40mins tops.

    I'd expect a main dealer with nice shiney ramps and mobile oil drain trays to shave at least 10minutes off that.

    Taylor172: If you think that 310 for an hours work is fair and justified then thats fine, and i'm sure if other forum members think its justified then they'll come knocking on your door for the work. At the end of the day, its an oil change. Wether its done at a main dealer or joe bobs garage down the road, it doesnt cost anywhere near the 400quid your quoting, and isnt worth that amount of money.

    If forum members wish to spend their money that way, thats up to them, but i'm just letting people know what they're actually getting for that spend. If it was my money, and i didnt have the ability or desire to do the work myself, i'd like to know i'm getting the best value when i'm getting the work done somewhere else, which is why i use forums like these. I'm also pretty damn sure that no Independant Audi specialist would charge anywhere near that amount for an oil change.

    Ive decided to go with QR Sport for the work. I cant justify main dealer prices. Id love a full Audi service history but Im happy that the work QR do is just as good.

    You won't be disappointed I took my old A4 there a few times and was impressed with their service.

    As soon as my Leon is out of warranty I will be taking it there.
