Hi

Been planning on getting the mk 5 golf gti for a while but im now going after an a4 as i want a good motorway cruiser.

has anyone had experience on any of the 2? Im looking to spend 7-8k so can probably get an average miler b6 or a higher miler b7 (same engine as golf gti).

I have also posted on audi-sport.net to get as many opinions as possible

Hi steebo888,

I have a 1.8T 190 which did not feel that quick coming from a 180bhp golf mk4 so ultimately I had it mapped and it's much better now.

However I have a mate who has a 2.0T jetta (which should be a similar comparison to the Audi) and it's a fair bit smoother than the 1.8T and feels really rapid in standard tune plus it's much more throttle responsive.

Also bear in mind the CO2 rating is less for a 2.0T so your tax will be £50 less per year as the 1.8T 190 goes up to £310 in 2010

The 2.0T is more economical as well - have a look on the comparison table on what car - http://www.whatcar.co.uk/car-comparison.aspx?M=3&U=1&ED=44087&ED2=46526&ED3=0

In summary I'm happy with my 1.8T but I'd go for the 2.0T if I had the choice between the 2.

Hope this helps,

Stu

Some great advice there. I'd second it all. If you can afford the B7 2.0Tfsi then go for it. The 2.0T is the only other mod I'd like on my car!!

The 1.8t is long in the tooth now and to get it past 250bhp you're talking big bucks. A 2.0T will give 245-250bhp with a map and 260+ with an exhaust, plus a lot more torque than the old 1.8t. :(
