I have noticed recently that when i start it, it takes 3 or 4 seconds longer than normal to start. You can here it turning over, but it just takes longer before it kicks in. Everything else runs ok, no EML lights on.

Any ideas? Its a 1.8T.

might be a slight reduction in fuel pressure, weakening pump, air leak or similar. Try using the ignition on and off to pressurise the fuel rail from the initial pump run each time then see if it bursts into life quicker. Otherwise i dunno, get it scanned on vagcom to see if any codes are stored that dont throw a cel?

Maybe the o2 sensor or lambda is giving a false reading causing the startup mix to be weaker?

I'd start with fuel pressure and air/vac leaks first.
