removing gearknob

Pull up the boot so you can see the metal clip around the base of the gearknob. Remove this clip and the gearknob will simply slide upwards.

There was a clip on mine. Have you fully lifted the leather boot up to access the underside of the gearknob?

It was, I changed it for the RS4 version.

pull up the frame surrounding the gaiter, then pull the gaiter up like taking a jumper off, it will snag, at the bottom of the gaiter is a plastic sleeve secured by a one-shot hose clip. It needs replaced with a worm clip when done, you have to cut it off with pliers etc.

I havent figured out how to use an aftermarket knob with the standard gaiter.....anyone?

I've seen a few attempts but they look really gash IMO. You'll really struggle to get it to look good without getting a proper trim specialist to do it.

Easier to fit another Audi gearknob, thats the easy option I chose!

hmmm yeah might be an idea. I just fancied the DTM touring car style knob but its not audi oem...
