    Clutch replacement on TDi 130 - dual mass flywheel as well?

    Probably need to get this done this year as it's done 190k on the original clutch. Abtech are saying it will almost certainly require replacement of the dual mass flywheel (?) due to the stupid design of the unit, (changed from the B5 which was a simple 130 job).
    Does this sound right, anyone had it done?
    It's bumping the price up to around 700 which just seems ludicrous even by Audi standards.

    my mate had this done for 400 at a specialist that was a 2004 tdi 130 sport aswell

    Can you find out where for me? Worth a road trip to save 300.
    Abtech are saying the flywheel is around 250 just for the part.

    Is the clutch slipping. Is there vibration from the flywheel. Why do you want to change it?
    Dual mass flywheel is around 200 -250.
    I got one done on a focus for 580 all in. Thats flywheel,clutch and new slave cylinder fitted by local mechnanic. ford where 500 just for the parts and looking1000 all in for supply and fit

    It's not quite slipping yet, but the biting point is becoming very vague.
    Just can't believe Audi changed the design from the very straightforward B5 unit 130 fitted to this ridiculously overcomplicated malarky.

    if you need the DM flywheel then source it yourself, and supply it to them.

    its only a small bit of extra labour to fit the flywheel while doin the clutch, at least then you know its not overcharged.
    B4 TDI - old skool project / daily driver...if it ain't broke, it's probably an Audi...

    Personally I wouldnt bother unless your suffering from vibration etc?

    I changed just the clutch on my old Golf PD130 at 100k miles and the DM flywheel was in perfect condition. I was advised to change it as a 'precaution' but decided against it as the only fault with the clutch was that the bite point was very high.

    Its not audi that changed the design. Its the common rail engine that dictates the use of a dual mass flywheel. Audi,vw,bmw,ford,toyota,peugeot etc all use dual mass flywheels on the common rail engines. Takes the excessive vibration out of the driveline. My mums focus only did 55k before it needed a flywheel. Mates car needed one at 80k. Most of the flywheels are made by the same company, doesn't matter what make of car you have. The biggest cost associated with a clutch change is labour, so for an extra 200 i would say fit the flywheel.
