As long as you have fitted the Forge correctly, you should notice a better throttle response, and abit more of a whistle.

VAG cars are recirc, so you will never get a noise like a Scubby.

prolly behind the bumper beside the rad, thats where most cars horns are mounted.

If your DV is a split type that can do 80% recirc, 20% vta, then you can get the pshhhhht sound ok but you need to adjust the valve to blow some pressure off outside and send the rest back into the intake. If you have a standard airbox too that will muffle the recirc dump, but its audible with an induction kit...

@ sniper - am I right in saying they are an atmospheric valve and not recirculating??
DV30 recirc is what you need, them Trumpets sound ****e and Im sure ive read it wont work with our 1.8ts.
Might be wrong but my opinion!!

ah and yeah you do have an airflow meter, follow the pipe back from your filter box and you'll see it.

    forge splitter

Hi juss it true its an atmospheric one but you can still use it, just blank off the recirculatry path and it would work fine.i used it before and everything worked ok but the dump valve was faulty (Broken spring).then changed it to a forge splitter and i wasn't happy now i want replace it with the bailey dump valve dv34 so just wondering if it would work because it not suitable for cars with airflow meter.would it make any differences at all.

I always thought the 1.8t's are desigined to have the boost pressure recirculated not vented.Did you notice any difference in performance at all?
Or is it the Psshhhhhh you like ..

I have a recirc (hyperboost) with a K&N Induction and that makes it sound Atmospheric, does my head in!

this was on Audizine a while back which I kept for future refernce :

"The Audi turbo system is a closed loop system by which all unused boost that is spooled during off throttle and gear shifts must be re-routed within the system; it cannot be vented to the atmosphere due to the dependence on the MAF and ECU to properly read and interpret air flow dynamics within the intake tract. Therefore BOV's (Blow-Off Valves) are not used because they create a rich air/fuel condition (i.e. less air to fuel ratio) which will damage the catalytic converter, create soot on the exhaust pipes, and cause occasional misfiring (due to the purged air) which will result in ECU miscalculated timing adjustments and other errors."

You get people that say they run with one and its been fine but ive heard some horror stories with Atmos 1.8ts!!

besides the point, your car has an Airflow meter and if thats what Bailey say about not suitable with Airflow meters then Heeellllllllllll No would I risk it!

The problem comes from the fact the 1.8t we have vents the recirc air from the turbo back into the system after the air flow meter, so it is expected to be there and if its not the system spits the dummy.

You can get away with dumping 35% to atmosphere but not recommended as j7uss says. Better to fit a good recirc valve and a cone filter kit (with heatshield of course) and get the best of both worlds, a recirculating dump and a whoosh when you let off.....

    Big thanks

Big thank you to J7uss and evil scotman. But i intially install the dump valve for swoosh noise not for performance.I live in london and you cant go fast anywhere. But when i first install the dump valve i blanked of the other pipe and i didnt lose any power nor any light on my dashboard.I miss my swoosh noise and my audi is not the same..i want my noise back but i cant be bothered to install an induction kit.So i will take a gamble an install the bailey DV34.but will sell the forge splitter.

A split valve will work, you just have to adjust the VTA port so it only vents a bit of pressure to the outside, open it up and run the car (when warm) up and down the road, if you get a CEL light then adjust the VTA port down a bit and try again until its happy.

Some say 20 to 30% VTA (Vent To Atmosphere) is ok, as long as you don't get a check engine light, your good to go. The venting of boost to atmosphere should be harmless, but the ecu has measured that air once already, and doesnt measure again, it just assumes the same amount is coming back so adjusts fuelling accordingly, if much less arrives then it runs rich and throws a CEL, not damaging like lean running, just annoying.

Since the DV closes on boost and opens when the throttle is released, the engine is winding down each time the DV opens so its fuel requirement is almost zero anyway, and its job is to stop back pressure from a closed throttle (whilst boost is present) causing the turbine to stall or break, so a DV that vents to atmosphere wouldnt break anything, just bugs the emissions control system by causing rich air/fuel ratio on closed throttle wind-down between gears.

Hope this helps! Adjusting your split valve correctly might get the result you want without problems.

My mate has just fitted one of them forge splitter/dump valve things on his A3 and it sounds ****e.

The horns are connected to the front bumper, remove the headlights to get access to them, its very easy and quick.

Theres a picture on this thread.

Thanks in regards to the Horn will get that done over the weekend if it doesn't rain but my forge splitter, can be recirculatory or atmospheric. So will try the atmospheric again this weekend and will give an update. Thanks again guys for all the help.

Secondly being thinking of getting an induction Kit example like K&N.Does anyone know the best one to get,Secondly not too pricey and is it easy to install?.

The horn might be just an unclipped connector, my b5 did that now i come to think of it and i was modding the airbox and found the connector, clipped it in and the horns both worked! Until that I thought it only had one.

The b6 horn is a monster when its working eh? Could dispatch oap's wi a single blast LOL. My sons saxo horn says "excuse me" - my audi says "GET OUTTA THE F*****NG WAY!!!!"

The K&N 57i doesnt seem too dear (< 100), and the BMC CDA Carbon Dynamic System is 182, cheaper than a carbonio.
